Dear Friend of Lake District Meat Co.,
As we head towards our fourth delivery, we want to start by saying a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us on this journey. When we first launched Lake District Meat Co., we were genuinely unsure what to expect. We knew asking people to spend what is often a week’s shopping budget on a meat box was no small thing — especially in the current cost-of-living crisis.
Yet, the support has been nothing short of incredible. Seeing customers return time and again makes it all worthwhile. The fantastic reviews we’ve received continue to reaffirm why we started this business — to provide people with exceptional quality, grass-fed meat that tastes the way it should. We’re thrilled that so many of you are noticing the difference and sharing your experiences with us.
Our next Local Delivery will be on Tuesday 21 October 2025, with UK-Wide Delivery following on Wednesday 22 October 2025.
Free Delivery is available on orders over £40 locally and £60 UK-wide.
For all other orders, a £7.95 delivery charge applies.

Food Security – A Growing Concern
This month, we wanted to take a moment to talk about something incredibly important: Food Security here in the UK.
According to a recent report, in 2023, 56% of UK farmland was bought by non-farmers (Strutt & Parker Press Release). This trend is raising serious questions about the future of British farming and our ability to sustain local food production.
Here in Cumbria, we’re seeing this more than ever. Land is increasingly being taken out of traditional farming use — with large-scale rewilding schemes and destocking of fells that have been grazed by hefted flocks for generations. Sadly, many landed estates and narrow-focused conservation organisations now find it more profitable to pursue environmental payments than to support sheep and shepherds.
The result? A slow erosion of rural life, with families being forced to give up their livelihoods for the sake of “net zero” targets that often overlook the human and food-security costs.
As Farmers Weekly recently noted in their article on the RSPB’s decision to remove sheep from upland farms:
“Food security focuses on ensuring everyone has sufficient access to food, while net zero aims to stop the planet from warming by balancing greenhouse gas emissions. Achieving both is a challenge, as the food system significantly contributes to emissions, but strategies like more efficient farming and shifts in diets can align these goals, ensuring food availability while mitigating climate change impacts.”
Finding that balance is vital — and right now, it feels as though we’re failing to do so.

Our Commitment
At Lake District Meat Co., we are determined to play our part in supporting local farmers and ensuring that Cumbria’s rural way of life not only survives but thrives. Our mission goes beyond selling meat — it’s about building a sustainable future for British farming and keeping real food on real tables.
Our journey is only just beginning, but with your continued support, we’ll keep doing everything we can to champion local farming, support rural communities, and supply you with premium, ethically reared, grass-fed beef that you can trust.
Thank you once again for believing in us — and for believing in the importance of British farming.
Warm regards,
The Lake District Meat Co. Team
